A Taurus Mountains jeep safari is not the same day in June as it is in October: the light changes, the crowds change, the water games come and go. Here is what the season actually feels like from the bench of the convoy, and how to time your booking. One reassurance up front: our Side jeep safari departs every day of the week, all year round, and the Alanya Dim River safari runs daily through its season from April to November, so "the best time" is about the flavour of day you want, not about catching a rare departure.
Early summer: the green season
Early in the summer the foothills are at their most generous. The orange and lemon orchards on the Side route and the citrus and banana plantations above Alanya are lush, the tracks throw up less dust, and the viewpoints over Green Canyon and the Alanya coastline are pleasantly uncrowded. As the warm weather settles in, the convoys turn playful: the water fights between jeeps are a summer tradition, and the first soakings of the year get the biggest laughs. Swimmers should arrive braced: the Dim River stays mountain-cold even in August, so an early-season dip is a genuine gasp. Booking is easy-going in this window; preferred dates are rarely a problem.
July and August: peak season, done properly
High summer is peak jeep-safari season for a reason: the water fights run at full strength, the swim stops earn their keep, and the mountains are the best escape from the busiest weeks on the beaches. The jeeps are open-top in summer, which means sun, wind and some dust, so take the packing list seriously in these weeks: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, a light scarf or buff, a waterproof pouch for your phone and a full change of dry clothes, because you will get wet, happily. The day itself is built around water in the hottest stretch: a swim break and fresh pancakes in Oymapınar village on the Side route, the famously cold Dim River on the Alanya route, and a shaded lakeside or riverside lunch in the middle of it all. Pickup comes in the morning after breakfast time, so the climbing is largely done before the day reaches full blaze. One practical tip: popular dates fill first in peak weeks, since each jeep carries eight to ten guests, book a few days ahead rather than the night before.
September and October: the connoisseur's window
Ask our drivers when they would ride as guests and most point here. The light turns golden, the viewpoints and photo stops are unhurried, and the water games carry on for as long as the warm weather holds. The Side route's working landscape, orange and lemon orchards, pomegranate trees, cotton and sesame fields, is at its most photogenic, and with the summer rush thinning out, availability is at its friendliest: this is the easiest time of the season to book late and still get exactly the day you want.
Late autumn and winter: one tour keeps going
The Alanya Dim River safari closes with the season: it runs daily from April to November. The Side Taurus Mountains safari, though, runs all year: in the cooler months the convoy switches to covered jeeps, the water games take a break, and the mountain scenery does the talking. Winter brings the clearest views of the year and the quietest tracks, and the lakeside lunch by Green Canyon is included exactly as in summer. If you are on this coast outside the main season, it is one of the few full-scale mountain excursions still departing every day of the week.
Booking ahead: how the season affects it
- Booking early costs nothing. Reservation is free and you pay on the day of the tour, so securing a peak-August date the moment your holiday is confirmed carries zero risk.
- Plans change? Fine. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure, useful in spring and autumn, when you may want to shuffle your excursion days around.
- Pickup is personal, not printed. Hotel pickup is included on both tours and your exact pickup is confirmed personally the evening before, so there is no guessing from a leaflet.
- Departure days. The Side safari runs every day of the week, year-round; the Alanya safari runs daily within its April–November season.
