Jeep Safari for First-Timers and Families: Who the Day Suits

Never done a jeep safari? Travelling with a four-year-old, a teenager or a grandparent? An honest local guide to who our Side and Alanya jeep safaris suit, the real age rules and prices, how bumpy it actually gets, and which tour fits which family.

"Is it safe for the kids?" "Is it too rough for my mother?" "Will a teenager be bored?" We hear these three questions more than any others, and they deserve straight answers: not brochure answers. Here is who our jeep safaris suit, from the people who run them.

What a jeep safari actually is (and is not)

Picture a convoy of open-top 4x4s, each seating eight to ten guests with a professional driver at the wheel, winding out of the resort strip into the Taurus foothills. The pace is sightseeing, not stunt-driving: photo stops at Roman bridges and aqueducts, viewpoints over Green Canyon or the Alanya coastline, a village visit, a swim, a long lunch. It is not extreme off-roading, and you never drive yourself: which is precisely why complete beginners, mixed-age families and groups where nobody wants to be the designated driver all do brilliantly on it.

The flip side: the tracks are unpaved, bumpy and dusty in places. You feel the road. Most guests find that part of the charm; if you have back or neck problems, tell our team before boarding, and we do not recommend the Alanya route for pregnant guests.

The age rules, exactly as they are

Side Jeep Safari: Taurus Mountains (full day)

  • Adults 13+: €18 · Children 7–12: €9 · Ages 0–6: free
  • Young children ride with an adult. This is our most family-shaped day: swim break, fresh village pancakes, lakeside lunch included, and the famous summer water fights, which children reliably declare the best part of their entire holiday.

Alanya Jeep Safari, Dim River (full day)

  • Adults: €30 · Children 4–12: €17 · Infants 0–3: free
  • Children travel accompanied by their parents. The reward stop is the Dim River, mountain-cold even in August, with lunch on platforms set right over the water.

Side Night Jeep Safari (evening, around 5 hours)

  • €35 per person, designed for guests aged 12 and over, this is the sunset-convoy, dinner-on-a-catamaran, deck-party version. Younger children are not suitable for this particular tour; not suitable for guests with mobility impairments either.

Who each tour suits best

Families with young children (under 7)

The Side day safari, without hesitation. The under-7 band travels free, the day is broken into short, varied stops so nobody sits still for long, and the swim break plus pancake stop are perfectly pitched at small attention spans. In summer, pack them a full dry outfit, see our packing guide, because they will not dodge a single water fight.

Families with school-age kids and teens

Either day safari works; pick by where you are staying rather than by the programme. Teens who roll their eyes at "another boat day" tend to be won over by the open jeep and the water battles. For families with teenagers 12 and up who want an evening out together, the night safari adds dinner, a catamaran party and the Manavgat Waterfall lit by evening: a different memory from the daytime version.

First-timers nervous about "adventure" tours

This is the gentlest entry into off-road days on the coast. No skill is required of you at any point: professional drivers handle every metre, guiding is provided throughout (in English, German and Russian on the Side day safari), and hotel pickup and drop-off are included, so the logistics never touch you. Your only decisions all day are where to sit and whether to order a second drink at lunch.

Grandparents and guests with health concerns

Plenty of grandparents ride along happily: the pace is unhurried and the stops are frequent. The caveats: the bumps are real, so back and neck problems need mentioning to the crew beforehand, and the night safari's late, lively format is not built for limited mobility. When in doubt, ask us before booking rather than at the gate; it costs nothing to ask and nothing to reserve.

The no-risk part that matters for families

Booking with small children means booking around naps, moods and the occasional fever. That is exactly why our booking terms are built the way they are: reservation is free, you pay on the day of the tour, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure. If the little one wakes up unwell, you cancel and lose nothing. The full cost picture, including the optional extras like the €5 Green Lake boat trip, is in our prices guide.

Quick answers before you go

Will you get wet? In summer, yes: happily. Is lunch really included? Yes, on both day tours, with dinner included on the night safari. Where does pickup happen? At your hotel's main entrance gate, across the Side and Alanya resort areas. Everything else, languages, weather, optional stops, is covered in our jeep safari FAQ.

And if you are still weighing a jeep day against the boat trips, canyons and ancient sites competing for your holiday, our complete local guide to Side excursions puts the whole coast on one page.
