The Experience

Some holidaymakers want a deck chair. This morning is for the other kind. We operate the safari ourselves, so the honest version is short: three hours from hotel door to hotel door, of which an hour and a half to two hours is driving, and you will come back coated in dust and ditchwater. Guests who would rather stay clean tend to prefer our boat days along the same coast. A minibus collects you in Alanya or a resort close by and climbs out of the seafront traffic into pine woods and village lanes until the off-road camp appears in the hills. Nobody sets off cold: there is a hands-on briefing and a practice lap first. Then comes the good part, all loose forest track and mud that redecorates the bonnet, with a ledge stop where the valley and the sea open up below and the water fight the guides always start. Your seat covers the return transfer, a fuelled two-seater buggy, helmet, goggles, briefing, a lead guide, the water stop and accident insurance. Drinks, snacks, lunch where it is offered, the photo service and tips are not in, and we would rather print that here than surprise you at the camp. Nothing is paid in advance; you settle on the tour day and can cancel free up to 24 hours ahead. Who drives is a question of ability: from 16, anyone steady after the practice lap takes their own wheel, and children from 6 ride along with a parent. Under-3s travel free, 4-11 pay the child rate.
