Atalay Tours ANTALYA RIVIERA

Cappadocia Tour from Antalya: Your Questions, Answered

Every question we actually get asked about the Cappadocia tour from the Antalya coast, answered by the operator: pickup areas and how times are confirmed, the balloon flight, 2-day vs 3-day, children, the underground city, meals, weather and free cancellation.

Answers from the operator, not a call centre

Almost every Cappadocia conversation starts the same way: where do you pick up from, and how long is the drive? Those answers, and the rest of what our office and our guides get asked about the Cappadocia tour from the Antalya coast, are below. If yours is not here, the tour page itself carries the full programme.

Where do you pick up from?

From hotels along the whole Antalya coast: the Side, Antalya, Belek, Kemer and Alanya areas. The coach waits at your hotel's main entrance, and pickup and drop-off are included in the price. One regional note: Kemer-area departures on the 3-day option require a minimum of two participants.

When will I know my pickup time?

Your exact pickup point and time are confirmed personally the day before departure. What we can tell you now is that it is very early, well before hotel breakfast, because crossing the Taurus Mountains while the roads are quiet is what buys you a full first day among the fairy chimneys.

How far is Cappadocia from the coast?

Far enough that this is built as an overnight trip, not a day trip. A substantial part of each travel day is on the road, broken by scheduled rest stops, and door-to-door time depends on where along the coast your hotel sits. The reward for the distance is waking up already inside the landscape.

Is the hot-air balloon flight included?

No: and be wary of anyone who implies otherwise. The balloon is an optional extra that depends on the weather and daily aviation approval, and seats are reserved exclusively through your tour guide during the tour; outside bookings cannot be combined with the programme. If flying is your main reason for going, choose the 3-day format: a cancelled first morning can be retried on the second.

Should I take the 2-day or the 3-day tour?

The 2-day programme packs the essential highlights, the underground city, Pigeon Valley, Uchisar, Love Valley, Goreme, around one hotel night, from €75 per adult. The 3-day format, priced on request when booking, adds Konya's Mevlana Museum, the Sultanhani Caravanserai, the pottery town of Avanos and a full unhurried valley day with a second hotel night, and roughly doubles your balloon odds. Families with young children often prefer its extra breathing room.

What do meals and the hotel look like?

You stay in a Cappadocia hotel on a half-board basis: dinner and breakfast are included for every night of your stay. Lunches, drinks and the optional breakfast rest stop on the outbound drive are at your own expense. Solo travellers who want their own room pay a single-room supplement.

Are museum entrances included?

Entrance fees to museums and archaeological sites are not in the base price. Your guide offers convenient ticket packages on tour, which spares you queueing at each gate. The full cost breakdown is in our prices guide.

Is it suitable for children and older travellers?

Yes, with caveats. The pace is manageable and the coach is air-conditioned, but the driving distances are long: worth weighing with small children. Children aged 8–12 pay a reduced €64 rate and infants aged 0–3 travel free; other child age bands are shown at booking. The underground city involves stairs and narrow passages, and anyone who prefers to skip that section can wait at the entrance without affecting the rest of the visit. More on this in the first-timer and family guide.

What about the weather: will it be cold?

Cooler than you expect. Cappadocia sits high on the Anatolian plateau and is noticeably cooler than the coast, even in summer; early mornings in particular call for a warm jacket. Our packing guide covers what to wear layer by layer.

What if balloon flights are cancelled by weather?

Flights operate only with daily aviation approval, so cancellations do happen: it is a safety feature, not bad luck management. Since the balloon is paid separately through your guide, a cancelled flight does not cost you anything; on the 3-day tour you simply get a second morning's chance.

How do booking, payment and cancellation work?

Reservation is free: you book seats online and pay on the tour day. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure. As Atalay Tours, the direct local operator, we hold no deposit and there are no hidden costs, the exclusions above are the complete list.

Can I combine this with other excursions from my resort?

Easily, most guests treat Cappadocia as the big overnight adventure of the holiday and fill the other days with coastal trips. Browse the rest of our local excursion guide to plan around it.
