Green Canyon Day Trip from Alanya: a Full Day on Oymapınar Lake
The Experience
Nine hours is a long time to be away from an Alanya beach, and that is precisely the point of this one. We collect guests from hotels in Alanya and Avsallar, head inland through citrus country and pine forest, and by the time the Taurus foothills close in, the coast feels like somewhere you visited last week. The destination is the reservoir held back by the Oymapınar Dam: a flooded gorge where walls of rock and pine climb hundreds of metres out of water the colour of bottle glass. Our boat spends the day working slowly along it, anchoring at coves for swimming and passing the trout-farm springs where the Manavgat River begins as something close to ice. Lunch is an open buffet laid on aboard. Drinks are not in the fare, bottled water included, so carry a little cash for the bar; photos, tips and anything you choose to do ashore sit outside the price too. Adults pay €33 and children €20; infants under four travel free and four to eleven year olds take the reduced rate. A pair of warnings before you book. That spring water is properly cold, not Mediterranean-warm. And there are steps and uneven ground on the way to the jetty, so we would not put a guest with limited mobility on this particular tour — ask us and we will suggest a gentler one. Booking costs nothing, you pay on the day, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours ahead.
