The Experience
Children can paddle this one from the age of seven, which is what sets it apart from the other Belek canyon run. The trade-off is stated up front: every person in the raft needs to be a swimmer and to do exactly what the guide says, start to finish, so a nervous non-swimmer belongs on one of our other routes. Recent surgery, back or heart trouble, and pregnancy also rule the day out. Once that is settled it is a generous, straightforward day. An air-conditioned vehicle collects you at your Belek hotel in the morning and climbs past the golf courses into the pine slopes of the national park. At the riverside base you are issued helmet, buoyancy jacket, paddle and wetsuit, briefed properly, and put in a raft with an English-speaking guide of your own. Around 14 kilometres of the Köprü follow: lively rapids, then turquoise flats where the boat slows, the Roman-era Oluk Bridge passing overhead, and safe stops for swimming in cold, clear water. Dry clothes afterwards, an open buffet at a shaded restaurant on the bank, then the drive back down, reaching Belek in the late afternoon. Adults €25, a lower rate for children, the youngest free. Accident insurance for the activity is covered. Drinks, tips, river photography, souvenirs and any quad, buggy or zipline extra are not. Booking costs nothing, you settle on the tour day, and you may cancel free up to 24 hours before.
