The Experience
Look up as the boat moves and you may catch wild goats working along the ridgelines; look down and there are trout farms pinned to the rock face. The reservoir behind the Oymapınar Dam is a working mountain landscape as much as a scenic one, and that is what sets it apart from a coastal boat trip. We collect you from your hotel in Kumköy in an air-conditioned vehicle and take the road inland through orange groves and pine, up into the Taurus. Six to seven hours later you are back, and at €33 for adults and €20 for children this is the lower-priced of the two full canyon days we run out of this resort. Out on the water, the boat follows the long green reservoir hemmed in by one of the tallest dams in the country, then anchors in a quiet cove. Swimming is entirely optional: dive from the deck, or stay put with a tea. Lunch is grilled and served by the lake, with salad and fruit in season. Worth knowing before you book. The pier is not wheelchair accessible and the swim coves are rocky, so bring shoes that grip. And it can be breezy out on the water even in high summer, so a light jacket earns its place in the bag. Infants under four travel free, four to eleven pay less, and you settle up on the day of the tour.
