The Experience
Twenty euros buys seven hours at sea, and that is the first honest thing to say about the pirate galleon. It is the cheapest full day we run out of Alanya harbour, and it is also the loudest. The route hugs the shore on purpose, because the coastline is the attraction. You pass beneath honey-coloured Seljuk walls and the Red Tower that once guarded the shipyard, then the green shimmer of Phosphorus Cave, the Lovers' Grotto, the dark mouth of Pirates Cave and Cleopatra Beach, each one called out by a crew in costume. Between landmarks the anchor goes down in sheltered coves. Bring a mask if you like snorkelling; if you would rather stay dry, life jackets are there on request and the deck is where the day really happens anyway, with foam cannons, games, dancing and an English-speaking animation team who work children and grandparents equally hard. Lunch is grilled chicken with rice and salad, eaten in the open air, and your fare also covers maritime insurance, life jackets and the transfer from central Alanya. It does not cover the bar, photographs, tips, or pickup from hotels outside central Alanya, which we can arrange on request. Children aged four to eleven travel at a reduced fare and infants up to three go free. We take nothing in advance, you pay on the day, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before sailing. If your idea of a good day afloat is silence, choose one of our quieter boats.
