Rafting from Alanya: a Full Day on the Köprü River in Köprülü Canyon

The Experience

Alanya sits furthest from the canyon of any resort we collect from, and we would rather you knew that before booking than discovered it on the coach. The day runs about eight hours door to door and a good share of that is road, up through Taurus pine forest, past ruins at the roadside, into the cooler air above the coast. If you want the river without the drive, we run the same water from towns much closer to it. What you get at the other end is the full fourteen kilometres of the Köprü, graded II-III. A certified English-speaking guide steers each raft and calls every stroke, which is why first-timers and families do well here; the minimum age for the course is seven. Non-swimmers are fine, since the buoyancy jacket does the work. Between rapids the boat drifts under high rock walls and you can slip into the water. Lunch afterwards is on a shaded terrace above the river, with time to swim and dry off before the return leg, and you are back at your hotel by late afternoon. Adults €20, a reduced rate for children of 4 to 11, the youngest free. Transfer, helmet, jacket, paddle, guiding, local insurance and lunch are in the price. Bring your own towel and dry clothes, because those are not provided, and expect to pay separately for drinks, dry-bag hire, photographs and tips. Nothing is charged until the day.
