Scuba Diving in Alanya: Two Guided Boat Dives on the Turquoise Coast
The Experience
Alanya is a coast worth seeing from the water, and this eight-hour day begins with the run down to the old harbour beneath the castle walls and the Red Tower. An air-conditioned vehicle collects you from your hotel in Alanya or a resort close by; pickup depends on where you are staying, so we agree it with you personally once the booking is made. Heading out, the boat passes quiet coves and the limestone cliffs above Cleopatra Beach. Anchored above a sheltered reef, the PADI instructors take over. There is a short briefing before each descent, then your mask, wetsuit and tank are fitted for you. Anyone breathing underwater for the first time stays within arm's reach of an instructor throughout. Divers who already hold a card can follow rocky overhangs, swim-throughs and small caves where bream, wrasse and the occasional moray live. Between the two descents you can snorkel from the boat or simply swim. A hot lunch is served on deck in a quiet bay, with drinking water all day. Anyone in your party who would rather stay dry-headed can come along to swim and sunbathe. Said plainly, because nobody likes surprises: drinks, the underwater photo service, tips and any dive beyond the two are extra. No alcohol beforehand, and the day does not suit pregnant guests or anyone with heart or serious breathing trouble. Adults €43, children 4-11 reduced, under-threes free. We run this boat ourselves, you pay on the tour day, and cancelling 24 hours ahead costs nothing.
