The Experience
The water is only half of this one. Afterwards the day carries on upwards, to a rock balcony 400 metres above the same gorge you have just paddled through — and seeing both halves of Köprülü inside one eight-hour day is what makes the drive worth it. The river section runs 14 kilometres down the Köprüçay, cold and clear, past sheer walls and under the Roman Oluk Bridge, which has stood over this water for two thousand years. Life jacket, helmet, paddle and wetsuit are handed out at the riverside base. You do not need to be able to swim, but you do need to listen to your guide. Afterwards comes the climb to the Tazı Canyon viewpoint, and then lunch beside the river: grilled chicken, village salads, seasonal fruit, with time to dry off over a glass of tea. Drinks are not part of it, and neither are photographs, tips, or the optional zipline and buggy add-ons at the canyon — we would rather list those here than spring them on you at the base. Because we run the day ourselves, the answer on suitability is straightforward. It is a poor choice if you are pregnant or have back, neck or heart trouble. Adults €44, children aged 4 to 11 €26, infants under four free. Nothing is paid in advance, and cancelling is free up to 24 hours before your pickup.
