The Experience
Kumköy has its own marina, and that is the practical argument for this trip. Guests staying in Kumköy and the resorts around it get a short ride instead of a long one, and the boat is on open water while other groups are still on the coast road. The vessel is a broad wooden cruiser with a proper sun deck and a swimming platform, both yours all day. Once the shoreline thins out, the captain works between sheltered bays where the sea turns pale turquoise over sand and you can watch fish from the rail before you jump. Between swims there is shade, breeze and the Taurus Mountains sitting along the horizon. Around midday the anchor drops in a quiet cove and lunch is served on board. The afternoon brings more swimming, music, and the foam that usually appears before the run back in. Reckon on roughly seven hours from your door and back to it. There are two limits here. Boarding is done from the water, so this is not the right boat for anyone with restricted mobility. And sailing times shift a little with wind and swell. Life jackets are aboard in every size. Drinks, optional water activities, the photo service and tips are not in the price; the English-speaking crew, the lunch, the transfer and local insurance are. We run the boat and take nothing until the day.
