Kumköy Rafting and Jeep Safari: a Full Day of White Water and Forest Tracks

The Experience

The Kumköy version of the jeep-and-rafting day takes the river first and keeps the four-wheel drive for the afternoon. The practical upshot: you are wet when the sun is at its highest and dry by the time you climb aboard the 4x4. You travel inland by air-conditioned minibus rather than in the back of a jeep, and the change of scene is quick — resorts give way to pine forest, streams and small stone villages. At the base you are fitted with helmet, life jacket, paddle and a wetsuit, briefed, then put onto roughly fourteen kilometres of Grade II–III water. The Roman Oluk Bridge, two thousand years old, passes overhead, and there is a swim stop in the turquoise pools. Lunch is laid out in the shade beside the river: grilled chicken, fresh salads, local bread. Then the open 4x4 takes over, with forest tracks, shallow fords and a hillside village where the valley opens out beneath you. Insurance, both activities, the full kit, the guides and drivers and the round trip from your Kumköy hotel are all in the price. Gratuities, drinks, the waterproof photo service and optional zipline or buggy add-ons are not. Adults €40, children 4 to 11 €24, infants free. Keep phones in waterproof storage on the river, and give the day a miss if you are pregnant or have a serious back or heart condition. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and nothing paid until then.
