The Experience
The gentler end of the Köprülü adventure menu, and deliberately so. Grade II water means splashy, not frightening. The guides take complete beginners out every day, and people who cannot swim are welcome because a life jacket is compulsory and supplied; rafting itself starts at age 12. If your plan is a zipline or a buggy in the same day, that is a different trip of ours — here they are only paid extras. A coach collects you from your hotel in the morning and climbs inland through pine forest and small mountain villages towards the Taurus range. Tazı Canyon comes first, a short walk out to a natural rock shelf roughly 400 metres above the gorge, where the photographs take themselves. Then down to the water: helmet, jacket, paddle, and around 14 kilometres between green canyon walls, past chutes, quiet pools, swim stops in cold turquoise water and the Roman Oluk Bridge overhead. Paddling fills two to three hours. €38 buys the air-conditioned transfer both ways, insurance, the full rafting kit, a river guide and an English-speaking escort, plus an open buffet lunch at a shaded restaurant on the bank. It does not buy drinks, tips, the waterproof photo service or souvenirs. Nothing is taken before the day, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours ahead. You are back at the hotel in the late afternoon. Bring swimwear, a towel, shoes that stay on in water and dry clothes to change into.
