The Experience

Calling this the gentlest rafting day we sell is a recommendation, not an apology. There is one adrenaline activity instead of three, and the back half of the eight hours is spent standing still, looking at something enormous. The morning belongs to the Köprü river. Instructors meet you at the Beşkonak base inside Köprülü Canyon National Park, fit you with a helmet, a life jacket and a paddle, and talk the boat through what happens before it goes anywhere. The route swings between rapids and long quiet stretches where the walls close in overhead and the old Roman bridges slide past. Lunch is served afterwards beside the river and is included. Then the road climbs to Tazı Canyon, the Valley of Wisdom, where the rock drops as much as 400 metres straight into the valley. Nothing is asked of you here except walking the viewing platforms and taking the photograph. The entrance fee is not in our price, it is paid on site, and we would rather say so now than at the barrier. Adults €34, children €20, infants free. We would not put a pregnant guest, or anyone with a heart condition or a serious mobility problem, on this tour at all. Bring a swimsuit, a towel, water-resistant shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen and a charged camera. You pay on the day, never before.
