The Experience
The Düden gives Antalya two waterfalls that have almost nothing in common. Upstream, northeast of the centre, it drops around twenty metres inside a shaded park where footpaths loop the water and the air stays cool in high summer. Down on the coast, the same river finishes by throwing itself some forty metres off a cliff straight into the Mediterranean, and the viewing terraces are built right on the lip. Kaleiçi comes next and the time is handed back to you: cobbled lanes, restored Ottoman houses, the marble span of Hadrian's Gate, the old harbour below. From that harbour you board a boat for an hour along the coastline, which is the only way to grasp how the city sits on its cliffs with the Taurus stacked behind it. Lunch is included at a local restaurant, traditional Turkish cooking, with vegetarian and vegan plates on request and drinks paid separately. The route also pauses briefly at a souvenir and jewellery centre; that is browsing, and nobody will work on you to buy. You are back at your hotel by early evening. Two things to flag. The old town is uneven cobble, so if anyone in your group struggles on foot, tell us before booking and we will say plainly whether the day suits them.
