Atalay Tours ANTALYA RIVIERA

Green Canyon First-Timer & Family Guide

Is Green Canyon right for your family? An honest local guide: how easy the day really is, child ages and prices, boat vs catamaran for young kids, and how it fits into a Riviera holiday week.

Green Canyon for First-Timers and Families

If you're planning your first Riviera holiday and wondering which excursion is the safe bet with children, grandparents, or a nervous swimmer in the group: this is the one our team recommends first, and for once the recommendation isn't sales talk. Here's a clear picture of who Green Canyon suits, who it doesn't, and how to do it well.

What It Actually Is

Green Canyon is the vast emerald reservoir above Oymapinar Dam, in the pine-covered mountains just inland from Manavgat. You cruise between steep canyon walls on calm, sheltered water, stop to swim in cool, crystal-clear mountain water, and — on the longer tour — eat a freshly prepared lunch on board. It is a nature day, not a party boat: no foam, no thumping speakers, no pressure to perform holiday enthusiasm.

How Difficult Is It? It Isn't

There is no hiking, no scrambling, and no swimming requirement. You board a boat, the boat does everything, and the swim stops are entirely optional, staying on deck with the view is a perfectly complete version of the day. The water is a dam reservoir, not open sea, so there is no swell; guests who dread Mediterranean boat trips consistently tell our crews this was the one they enjoyed.

One note: the swimming water is mountain-fed and cool. Delicious on a hot day, but a brisk surprise if you're expecting bathtub temperatures. Warn the kids; then watch them refuse to get out.

The Two Ways to Do It

  • The 4.5-hour boat tour: the full experience: more cruising, multiple swimming stops, lunch served on board. Best for families with school-age children and anyone who wants Green Canyon to be the day.
  • The 2.5-hour catamaran: the gentle dose: panoramic deck, one swim stop, back before anyone's patience expires. Our usual suggestion for families with very young children, and for guests fitting the canyon around a beach afternoon.

Both cost the same, €33 per adult (ages 12–99), €18 per child (ages 3–11), so the choice is purely about stamina and schedule, never budget. Full details in our price guide.

Ages: What the Numbers Mean for Your Family

Our price list runs from age 3 upward: children 3–11 at the reduced rate, everyone 12 and over as adults. Travelling with a baby under 3? Tell us when you reserve and we'll confirm the arrangements for your little one personally rather than leave you guessing.

At the other end of the age range, this is the excursion we suggest for multi-generation groups: shade on deck, calm water, no physical demands. Grandparents enjoy it rather than endure it.

Who Should Probably Pick Something Else

Fairness cuts both ways. If your group wants adrenaline, loud music, or open-sea sailing, Green Canyon will feel serene to the point of sleepy: this is scenery, swimming and lunch at an easy pace. Thrill-seekers should look at the coast's action excursions instead; our complete local guide to Side excursions maps out the whole spectrum so you can match the day to the mood.

How Families Slot It Into the Week

The rhythm that works: beach days to start, Green Canyon as the mid-week change of air, mountains and emerald water instead of sand, then back to the coast refreshed. Hotel pickup can be arranged from the Side and Manavgat area every day, from Alanya every day in the summer season, and from Belek and Antalya on Mondays and Thursdays, so the canyon reaches most of the Riviera without you renting a car or navigating mountain roads with a full family on board.

We confirm your exact pickup personally the evening before the tour, so there's no guesswork on the morning, just be in your lobby at the time we agree together.

First-Timer Checklist

  • Swimwear on under your clothes, towel and dry change packed: the full list is in what to bring and wear.
  • Sun cream and hats for everyone: open water bounces light, even on hazy days.
  • Reserve early in your holiday week, both tours run daily, so if clouds roll in you can simply shift days.

The Part That Makes It Easy to Say Yes

Reserving costs nothing, you pay on the tour day, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before. For a family juggling nap times, moods and weather, that flexibility is the whole game: book the seats, keep your options, decide like a local. Our captains will be there either way. Undecided between the two Green Canyon boats? We put them side by side here.
