Side Pirate & Dolphin Boat Tours: Your Questions, Answered by the Operator

Eleven real questions families ask before booking a pirate or dolphin boat tour in Side, answered honestly by the local operator: dolphins, seasickness, ages, lunch, swimming ability, prices, cancellations and more.

"Will we definitely see dolphins?" is the question we answer most often: at the dock, on WhatsApp, and in hotel lobbies across Side. It opens the list below: no marketing gloss, just the answers we give in person.

The wildlife question everyone asks first

Will we definitely see dolphins?

No operator can honestly promise you wild animals, and we will not either. On the Dolphin Island Boat Tour and the Dolphin Watching Cruise we sail into the natural habitat of wild dolphins and protected Caretta Caretta sea turtles, so sightings are very possible, on lucky days dolphins appear right by the boat, but they are never guaranteed. What we can promise: river turtles are seen on almost every Manavgat river cruise, sunbathing on branches along the banks. Book the day for the swimming, the lunch and the deck party; treat a dolphin as the bonus it is.

Kids, ages and family logistics

Which tour is best for young children?

The two pirate boats are built entirely around kids. The Side Pirate Boat Tour runs a full animation programme, free face painting, a treasure hunt with a secret map, tug-of-war and capturing the cheeky pirate Ferhat, while the Little Pirates tour adds pirate costumes for the children and a crew dressed in character. The dolphin cruises are calmer, better suited to families who want swimming and scenery over showtime.

Do babies and toddlers pay?

No. Infants sail free on all four cruises; on the Dolphin Watching Cruise the free infant rate covers ages 0–2, with the child rate from age 3 and the adult rate from 16.

Do parents just watch, or join in?

Join in. The pirate tours are themed for kids, but parents are warmly welcome in the games, the swimming and the foam party. On Little Pirates, parents stay with their children throughout: and many end up more foam-covered than the kids.

The practical stuff

How long is a tour, and when does it start?

Plan for a full day out. The pirate and Dolphin Island boats depart mid-morning and run about 6 hours. The Dolphin Watching Cruise is the longest day of the four. Hotel pickup is included on every tour, and your exact pickup time is confirmed personally the day before.

Is lunch really included?

Yes, on every cruise. The pirate boats serve kid favourites, spaghetti, chicken fingers and fish fingers, that adults happily eat too. The Dolphin Island tour serves a freshly grilled BBQ of chicken with rice or pasta, salad and bread on deck. Drinks are sold separately at the onboard bar, with one exception: soft drinks come with lunch on the Little Pirates tour.

Do the kids need to be strong swimmers?

No. Swim stops are anchored breaks, not open-sea crossings, and life jackets are on board: the Dolphin Watching Cruise carries them for all ages. Children swim under their parents' eyes, and anyone who prefers to stay dry can simply enjoy the deck. All boat operations are run by a licensed captain and certified crew, and travel insurance is included on the pirate and Dolphin Island tours.

What about seasickness?

These are gentle coastal cruises, and much of the route, the river and the delta, is calm, sheltered water rather than open sea. Rough days are rare in the sailing season. If someone in the family is very sensitive, sit midship, keep eyes on the horizon, and speak to the crew: they have seen it all before.

Money and booking

What do the tours cost?

Adults pay €20–€25 and children €14–€16 depending on the boat: Little Pirates €20/€14, Dolphin Island €21/€15, Side Pirate Boat €23/€16 and Dolphin Watching €25/€15. Transfers, lunch and entertainment are inside those prices: the full breakdown, including what a family of four pays, is in our prices guide.

Do I pay when I book?

No. Reservation is free, you pay on the day of the tour, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before departure. We are Atalay Tours, the local operator, so there is no middleman and no hidden fee, what you see listed is exactly what you get.

Should I book ahead?

Yes, especially in peak season, the pirate boats fill fast with families, so booking a few days ahead is wise. Since the reservation costs nothing and cancellation is free up to 24 hours out, there is no downside to reserving early.
