Yes, you will be scared — and it lasts about thirty seconds
Here is what nobody tells you about a first tandem paragliding flight in Alanya: the fear is real, it peaks in the minute before takeoff, and it is gone almost the instant your feet leave the ground. You do not jump off anything. You stand on a launch hill roughly 700 metres above the Alanya coast, clipped into a harness in front of a licensed pilot, and when the wing is ready you run a few steps. The wing loads, the ground simply drops away beneath you, and the part of your brain that was screaming goes quiet — because the sensation is not falling. It is floating, in a seat, over the Mediterranean. The flight ends on the sand of Cleopatra Beach, and it costs €75 per person, with nothing to pay until the tour day.
Who a first flight does not suit
This is a tandem flight — the pilot flies, you sit — so it needs no experience, no fitness and no courage beyond those few running steps. But it is not for everyone. It is not suitable for guests with medical conditions that prevent flying, and you are responsible for declaring your own health status. The bookable rate applies from age 13, and guests under 18 need signed parental consent. Age and weight limits apply and are confirmed when you book — if you are unsure, ask before reserving rather than at the launch hill. And if your holiday schedule cannot absorb a change of plan, think twice: paragliding is honest about one thing, which is that the wind decides. If the weather is not safe, your flight is held for the next day, rescheduled or refunded, and the pilot's decision is final.
The first thirty seconds, described properly
At the top of the hill your pilot fits your helmet and harness and walks you through a short pre-flight briefing — where to stand, when to run, when to sit back. Then you wait for the pilot's word, and this is the worst moment, the one the "scared" searches are really about. When it comes, you run — a light jog, not a sprint — and somewhere in the third or fourth step the harness takes your weight and your legs are pedalling air. You sit back into the seat. Below you the Alanya coastline unrolls: the long curve of the shore, water shading from turquoise to deep navy, beach umbrellas shrunk to confetti. Most first-timers report the same sequence: terror, silence, then grinning. Every flight carries a backup safety parachute, and all flight equipment, the briefing and insurance are included in the price.
What is included, and the two optional extras
The €75 covers the tandem flight from the 700 m hill with a licensed pilot, hotel pickup and drop-off in the Alanya area, all flight and safety equipment, the pre-flight briefing and insurance. Two things are optional. Flight photos and videos are taken during the flight and offered for purchase after you land on Cleopatra Beach — buy them or do not, no pressure. And a female pilot is available on request for €20 per person, paid in cash on the spot. Food and drinks are not included. Bring sports shoes, comfortable clothes and sunglasses; everything else is handled.
Flying it from Side, Belek or Antalya
The flight is an Alanya product — the launch hill and Cleopatra Beach landing are both there, and hotel pickup in the Alanya area is included, with the exact point being your hotel's security gate or directly in front of the hotel. Staying further west? Departures with round-trip transfer are available from the Side, Belek and Antalya areas, so the coastal drive becomes part of the day rather than your problem. We confirm your flight date individually when you book, and reservation costs nothing upfront: pay on the tour day, cancel free up to 24 hours before.
Make a day of Alanya
Since you are coming to Alanya anyway, the natural pairing is the Alanya city tour, from €43 — it turns a single adrenaline hour into a full day out in a city most Side-corridor guests otherwise only see from the coast road. Our guide to the day trip to Alanya from Side covers how to combine the pieces, and Side vs Alanya jeep safari compares the region's other adventure day. If you would rather keep your feet on the ground after all, an Aspendos show evening delivers its drama from a stone seat. But if the question in your head is still "could I actually do this?" — the answer, for almost everyone from age 13 up, is yes. Reserve your tandem flight free, and let the wind pick the perfect day.
