The Experience

On a lot of combination days the coach out to the river is just a coach. Not on this one. The vehicle that collects you at your hotel is an open-topped jeep, and it stays with you until you are dropped back that evening. The road inland to Beşkonak, in the Köprülü gorge, is worth having the roof off for. At the water you swap wheels for a paddle. The run is roughly 12 kilometres, led by river instructors who brief every boat before it launches, and the rhythm alternates: a burst of rapids, then a flat stretch where people mostly look up. Swim stops are written into the day, and so is the rock you can jump off if you fancy it. You are issued a helmet, a life jacket and a paddle, at no charge. Dry land takes over afterwards, with an off-road stretch through riverbeds and broken ground before lunch is served beside the water. Because we run this river ourselves rather than reselling somebody else's seats, we can be straight with you: you are a passenger all day here, not a driver. If you want to drive something, our quad or buggy combinations are the better booking. Adults pay €28, children aged 4 to 11 pay €17, and infants travel free. Rafting is not advised below the age of four. Nothing is taken up front, and cancelling is free until 24 hours before.
